Examples of Her Work

Cynde Roof was born in Ponca City Oklahoma in 1952. Her life has been exciting and unusual. At age 9 her grandmother presented her with a small oil paint set and placed her outside to entertain herself. That seed finally germinated 40 years later and when it took off it grew leaps and bounds.

While being a relatively new painter, Cynde has been awarded many top honors and awards and is collected by individuals and entities nationwide. She appeals to everyone that is searching for a “beautiful” painting to grace the walls in their homes and businesses. “It takes two people to enjoy a painting. The artist writes his story and the art patron ‘reads’ the work” “I feel really blessed to be involved in the gallery experience at Nichols, the best art showplace in Taos” Creation starts long before I bring out materials. Nature is my wakeup call to paint. We live on a beautiful property that has a creek and walking trails. I like to be among the things in nature to start a focal point in my thinking. Then I return to the studio to set up a still life bringing with me something from the outside. It may only be a leaf or a twig but it will be included. I work with purpose creating the mystery of shadows and light in my composition, spending as long as it takes to set up the perfect balance. Then I sit. I watch. I look deep into what is sitting before me and the objects begin to change. They take on a different “life quality”. Then I know I am ready to play out the drama on canvas.

When creating, I am lost to another universe of experiences translating beautiful arrays of shapes and colors. My most intriguing work happens if I unleash my brush and let “automatic painting” take over. It’s like “ghost” painting. The creation tells it’s own story. It is a chrysalis unfolding for the reveal. I just hold on and enjoy the journey. I started to paint seriously when I became very ill last year. I believe that you must be at the edge of a precipice to draw forth talents and intense emotion. I funneled them into my lifelong dream. That I might someday paint. I spent many years in Europe dabbling in art history and being surrounded by the works of the ancient masters. You can’t go anywhere without the luxury of beautiful works of art assaulting your senses. I attribute my small bit of talent to this and to God who runs my paintbrush!
